linuxcaffe (Toronto)

Filed under: — Marcus Bornfreund on 12/30/2007 @ 5:26 pm

Toronto’s linuxcaffe is a great place to escape the cold and soak up the rays… well, more like metabolize the wi-fi waves. Combining coffee and computer code, the linuxcaffe is serving up a potent elixir for those partial to a tasty byte.

The salt of the earth and a pillar of the Annex computing community, linuxcaffe provides free wi-fi to the adjacent off-leash dog Park (available year-round but more user-friendly during non-tobogganing weather). Check it out, but don’t take my seat by the radiator ;)

linuxcaffe is located at 326 Harbord Street (at Grace) in Toronto. Phone: (416) 534-2116. Email: contact@linuxcaffe.ca

Monday - Friday: 7ish to 11ish
Saturday: 10ish to 11ish
Sunday: 10ish to 5 pm.

Early Spring: Meditation on Bare Alders

Filed under: — Marcus Bornfreund on 12/7/2007 @ 10:47 pm

Here’s another terrific poem from CC Canada Poet Laureate John Hoben. Early Spring: Meditation on Bare Alders can be found in the most recent issue of Inscribed: A Magazine for Writers. We are thrilled to republish it here under a Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives licence.

Early Spring: Meditation on Bare Alders
by John Hoben

With heavy hand
I am searching for that
one perfect sentence;

while over reticent alders
the sky is
still sleeping;

and, like a great
unseen
river flowing,

lulls me into
a deeper
calm.

Born and raised in Musgrave Harbour, a small fishing community located on the North East Coast of Newfoundland, John is currently a PhD Candidate in Education at Memorial University in St. John’s. Check out his previously blogged poems Salmon Falls, At Close of Autumn (for Li Po) and Banting Lake.
